012: The Monthly Edit, August 2023

Here are some of the products I used this month:

BEAUTY

With August being the more humid month of the New England summer, I had to keep it simple. Always sunscreen (which I have many) with light makeup. It's all about skincare and being able to wear as little coverage as possible. Soft slippery lips, shades of peach, with a touch of bronze.

SKIN

Skin was pretty simple, just trying to stay ahead of the humidity. I discovered Cetaphil Healthy Radiance Cleanser a few months back and now I use it all the time. Such a discovery. Exfoliation is required on a regular basis to turn over dead skin cells. As you get old, it takes longer to turn over. I also start the day Cetaphil cleansing, using the Daily Facial Cleanser in every morning. With cleansing, I keep it pretty simple.

Sunscreen, Elta MD is the best and I throw in SuperGoop Glow Screen for glow. And I can't forget Trader Joe's Daily Facial Sunscreen (SuperGoop Unscreen dupe). As of today, they've already pulled it from stores (why??). But I bought a few tubes knowing it might disappear.

I use various vitamin C serums to help with hyperpigmentation and fine lines (like the one from Kiehl's). I use vitamin C every morning and night and then at night, I layer it with a retinol serum (OTC), like the ones from The Ordinary and La Roche-Posay.

I top the C-retinol concoction with a face cream. I'm continuing to use the now-discontinued Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation. I do not know why it was discontinued (I've been using it for over 5 years and I'm devastated it's no longer sold) but I've picked up enough jars at TJ Maxx and Marshall's to last me a while.

The month ended with a HydraFacial. As a licensed esthetician, I highly suggest this facial. You don't get beat up, it's great for a good purge and, most of all, you get a nice glow.

MAKEUP

With August being August, I wore little to no foundation. SPF, tint, and cover is all I needed. I continued with Tower 28 Tinted Moisturizer in Mulholland Drive. It's just superb, it really is. And, I never say that. It isn't sticky or tacky, nice tint, makes my skin look great, and it doesn't break me out.

For cheeks, I stuck with Merit Bronze Balm Sheer Sculpting Bronzer in Seine and rotated with DIBS Beauty Duo Stick in #3. I'm liking more of a peach-leaning cheek lately, not so much pink and baby pink (although, I did just buy a new pink Merit blush). I also, finally, started using my Kjaer Weis cream blush in Sun Touched. I got it during a sale on the KJ website recently and felt like I was saving it for some reason. It's really beautiful. Not too glow-y but so pretty.

Not much need for highlighter this month but I just picked up Westman Atelier Liquid Super Loaded Drops in Peau de Pêche. Good golly, it's good. Westman never disappoints; such great products. And this shade, in particular, is just beautiful.

For eyes, I just picked up yet another Bobbi Cream Shadow Stick, this time in Nude Beach. I swiped either that shade or IT Cosmetics in Bare & Brave. I just wanted to dap a few times and be done, no fuss. I picked up one of the new Merit singles and am still testing it out. So far, I love it.

I finally got the Natasha Denona Concealer. Two words: The best. I've been wearing shade N4 and I already got N3 for the fall and winter.

For mascara, I switched between Merit and Maybelline Tinted Mascara Primer.

For lips, I was all over the place, not sticking to anything in particular. I won't list all of them here but a few I used a lot:

Summer Friday Butter Balm in Pink Sugar. Stop. Just stop. This balm has this honey-like consistency. It's so delicious. I could swirl it around my lips over and over and never tire. The shade is super-sheer but it's perfect with a little pencil (like NYX Nude Truffle and Charlotte Tilbury Iconic Nude) I even wear it around the house.

City Beauty City Lips Plumping Lip Gloss in Clear. Such a find. I even wear it to bed. It's so not sticky and icky; a great plumping gloss. I heard about this line from Lisa Duncan (@LisaLisaD1).

Chanel Rouge Coco Baume in Pink Delight. Yes, this is the shade Sofia Richie wore on her wedding day. Yes, I bought it right after I saw her wearing it. And, yes, it's that good. It's soooo pretty.

Heartspring Tinted Rose Balm. This is Kristina Kelly's company; she's on Vanderpump Rules ("Lip Balm Girl") occasionally. I really love this lip balm. Just a whisper of pink with a pretty rose scent. I've bought this balm multiple times...and buy two at a time.

FRAGRANCE

This month, I tried to wear a few different scents. I still continued to wear Aerin Beauty Hibiscus Palm, but I also got a bug in my ear for Le Labo Santa 33 (I'm 10 years behind everyone). I'd tested it previously, when Barneys NY still existed, and thought "Meh". But I did pick up Maison Louie No. 04 Bois de Balincourt, rollerball, a while back. I just couldn't commit. I actually like it. I even bought a few Santa 33 samples. I've moved passed "Meh" to "It's OK" but I'm still not in love with it. That's a sad commentary. Come fall, I usually stick to certain scents and I might add this here and there.

Another scent I've had in my collection Stoked Candles Tropic Surf Wax rollerball. Smells delicious. Coconut-y, sexy, beach-y, and close to your skin. I even combine it with my homemade rose oil. A surfer's dream.

NAILS

This month, I was totally lazy. I either wore OPI Nail Envy or kept my nails short and buffed. What can I say. Work was busy. For my toes, I stuck to Morgan Taylor Wake Up This Way.

Au revoir, summer!
