Before I worked for Sephora, I normally applied my own makeup with my hands. It's easier, I know where my hands have been, and leaves a more natural application. The best part is that you get way more control. And, back then, I wore cream shadow all the time. Back in the '90s, my favorite everyday shadow was Revlon ColorStay in some taupe-y brown. Long discontinued. Once I worked at Sephora, it was all about brushes, always, on both clients and myself.
Well, I haven't worked for Sephora in a bit and I'm slowly collecting really great cream shadows. Most recently, Merit Solo Shadow in Studio.
Oddly enough, the online reviews sort of go back and forth but I think cream shadows, in general, need good prep and set in order to work. This particular shadow is fantastic; it's pretty light and buildable. I'm not big on anything all-day wear because I wonder about product ingredients that make it bulletproof but this shadow stays and looks beautiful all day. It helps that I'm a huge Merit fan.
I prime my lid, first, then I apply this shadow with my pinky and then I set it with Make Up For Ever HD powder. This magic process always works. If I have a special event, I might "back it up" with a powder shadow (similar shade)..
